Here's another great little story written by a student who recently completed CKI's Greek 1 class. The student shared this story (about the recent Mark Driscoll and John Macarthur fiasco) in class, asked some questions of his classmates (questions not included here), and got a few laughs from the story along the way. Give it a read, it has a fun twist at the end and I think you'll enjoy it!

Here is a fun, short story created by a student at the end of CKI's Greek 1 course.  He had the opportunity to present this in class and ask his peers questions.  Stuff like this tends to make a teacher proud!  I'm thankful to work with such great students.

The story that follows was composed by one of CKI's students at the end of Greek 1. He also created questions, however, those are not included here. The story is fun, accessible and a wonderful example of how CKI helps its students progress in Greek, even after just twelve hours of class time! Enjoy!

ὁ πατὴρ ἔκραξεν· υἱέ μου, πῶς ἔχεις;

The following is a story composed by one of CKI's students at the end of Greek 1.  She presented this story to the class and, in addition, asked her classmates a handful of questions (not included here).  Enjoy!

τὰ ἄρθρα - The (Definite) Articles

Anyone with some familiarity of ancient Greek knows that the (Definite) Article features quite prominently.  Sometimes it is even the article that clarifies ambiguity in a statement.  In this brief post in our series dealing with the Greek (Definite) Article, I want to offer a simple table (or paradigm) of the Article.  Actually, I will give the paradigm twice but once with English labels and once with Greek labels.

ὁ παῖς ᾧ ὄνομα Μᾶρκος (πρῶτος μέρος) | A boy named Mark (Part I)

οὗτός ἐστι Μᾶρκος. ὁ Μᾶρκός ἐστι παῖς Ἑλληνικός. ποῦ οἰκεῖ ὁ Μᾶρκος; ὁ Μᾶρκος οἰκεῖ ἐν Ἐφέσῳ. νῦν ὁ Μᾶρκος σὺν τῷ διδασκάλῳ ἐστίν. ὁ Μᾶρκος καλῶς λέγειν καὶ γράφειν μανθάνω. ἔστι τὸ μανθάνειν τῷ Μάρκῳ ἡδύ; οὐδαμῶς, τὸ μανθάνειν οὐχ ἡδὺ τῷ Μάρκῳ, ὁ Μᾶρκος μανθάνειν οὐχ ἥδεται. ἐξαίφνης ὁ Μᾶρκος ἀπὸ τοῦ διδασκάλου αὐτοῦ εἰς τὴν ὁδὸν τρέχει. ποῖ τρέχει ὁ Μᾶρκος;

The Greek Definite Article

I (Michael Halcomb) am pleased to announce the launch of the Conversational Koine Institute blog. Every month or two we will switch to a new topic on the blog. For the first six weeks or so we are going to offer some insights on the (Definite Article) in Koine Greek. What do I mean by "we" and what do I mean by "insights" (plural)? By "we" I mean the CKI blog team, which consists of myself and two others, namely, Seumas MacDonald and Vivek Jones. By "insights" I mean that we're going to offer posts from a number of different angles. For example, there will be posts related to grammar. There will also be posts related to resources. Just as well, we'll offer posts that consist of short stories. There are many different ways that we can and will approach any number of subjects. Tomorrow we'll have a unique post with a unique story created by Seumas. In the days to follow, look for more stories and other types of posts drawing attention to the (Definite) Article. We hope that you'll enjoy this blog and we hope that you'll find it helpful and informative.
